A Day In The Life of George Latimer
Last year, I spent a day with then-Assemblyman and now County Executive George Latimer. We traveled throughout his district documenting his interactions with his constituents.
Mr. Latimer credits his success in politics to getting to know the people he represents on a personal level. According to Latimer, this experience provides him with different perspectives which he can then bring with him to Albany. In our interviews with Senator Latimer, we learned why he resists the idea of being known as a “career politician” as he tries to represent people as aggressively today as if if it were his first day in public office.

Movie Bio:
The Pine Ridge Reservation is home to the Oglala Sioux. Located in the Southwest corner of South Dakota, the Lakota speaking Natives have one of the most fascinating, controversial, and difficult histories a group of people have ever told. From the infamous Wounded Knee Massacre to the loss of the Black Hills, to a present day unemployment rate of 80%, the residents of Pine Ridge have many difficult stories to tell.
Yet, these are not the only stories to come out of Pine Ridge. The Oglala Lakota’s incredibly rich culture and history are full of fascinating traditions and stories that have shaped the identity of the people and their home. Language of the Unheard is a documentary looking to capture just a few of these stories, both of struggle and of identity, in hopes of giving a voice to a group of people who have not had one.
We hope that through this film, we and the rest of the country can begin to get an idea of who the people of Pine Ridge really are, and what stories they have to share.
